Hi,

At the moment for my HT I am using a 20" CRT Tv in my bedroom which has a built in video tape player. What I would like to do is connect the player to my reciever so that I can watch them in surround sound like my DVD's, as I have quite a sizable tape collection.

My TV has one SCART socket and headphone out port, that is it. Using the SCART socket is quite limiting as I have my freeview reciever (UK digital set top box) connected into that and everything else is fed into the AUX SCART port of the Freeview reciver.

You could use a cable that would use the headphone jack and split to a left and right RCA cable. I'm not sure what the sound quality will be but it should work.

Yes that will work as long as you keep the output volume level at a level that does not overload the input on the receiver. I do that from my laptop headphone out to my receiver every now and then -- works well enough.

Along wih the other cautions above, you better hope the VCR is at least a stereo unit. At least then you can avail yourself of DPL. Otherwise, it's mono, baby, and DPL is pretty worthless with that.

Its about a 4 or 5 year old TV so I would think its stereo.
Most tapes are encoded in dolby surround, if I used the SCART port with a RCA adaptor, would that encoding still be there?

I could get a SCART switcher so can input/output two sources at once. I could get one when I go to France in a couple of months, the stuffs so much cheaper over there.
