Connecting Surrounds

I originally posted the below, and wound up going with the 5.X setup. I just installed . I wanted to make sure I fully understood the advice given though: The two rear surrounds should be connected to the 'Surrounds' on my AVR, not the 'Rear Surrounds', correct?

That's probably correct, but it would be best to check the manual.

If it's a 5 channel source. the left and right surround amplifiers will produce output to which your speakers should be connected. If you connect your surround speakers to the rear surround amplifiers, there will be no sound coming out.

There are no "rear or back surrounds" in a 5ch setup. They only come into play in 7ch setups. Placement of the surrounds in a 5ch setup is more to the sides, perhaps slightly rearward, of the listening position.
