If you only have 2 speakers.
which is the better connection ...

source - DIGITAL CONNECTION - avr ... then set to stereo mode

or

source - DIRECT ANALOGS - avr ... obviously in stereo

I'd keep the signal in the digital domain as far down the chain as possible. Less chance for analog mishaps:D Connect with digital to avr.

Sometimes analog connections will give you better S/N ratio. Try both, and go with what sounds better to you.

thanks guys ... 1 vs. 1

anymore opinions?
I just use digital connection to the 3806 don't think about it that much. I suspect it would not make that much difference, but like Buck said, try it, you never know, you may just find it's a tweak that sounds better to you.

The answer depends on the quality of the DAC's in both units and your personal preferences.

Why not just try it for yourself? You're the one gonna to have to live with it, no?

I'm pretty sure you could wrangle up a pair of analog interconnects and a digital (virtually any) coax interconnect, connect 'em both to separate inputs (digital and analog), switch between 'em and listen for yourself, no?

hint ...louder is not necessarially better, although that also is a preference.

Why are others opinions so important here?

thanks guys ...

other's opinions are important because I personally can't hear the diff. so (yes it is for comfort factor) I was fishing answers from people who maybe have tried both :)
