Connecting preamp without HDMI to receiver with HDMI

I have a Marantz nr1403 Slimline with HDMI. It sounds great, but I was looking to add more power. I came across a good deal on an outlaw audio 970 preamp, but it doesn't have HDMI. Would it be possible to use the outlaw to power the speakers and keep using the Marantz HDMI connection the way I currently am for my cable tv? New to the world of separates.

How would adding a preamp give you more power?

My receiver has pre outs. Should I be looking at a Poweramp instead of preamp to boost speaker power?

Yes a power amp is what you need. What speakers do you have and how far do you sit from them? Also what's your budget?

I have jamo c805 tower speakers and a jamo center. I sit about 10ft away. The budget is pretty much if I find a good deal on something on Craigslist. I'm happy with the way my system sounds, I just figured some good clean power can't hurt.

At moderate volume you would probably need a power amp. Something like this, brand-new would be a great choice

Having unused power is just that, though...unused. If you're listening at high enough levels then the more powerful amp could help, and that is a fairly lightweight amp section in that avr (but you say you're happy with the sound now, so....). So, just how loud do you listen? Assuming you calibrated the receiver with the Audyssey program (or with an spl meter), what are the readings on your master volume control now?
