I'm in the process of setting up home theater and need advice with the cable connections from the elite vsx82txs to the emotiva mps-1. The pioneer has pre-outs (unbalanced: l/r front, center, sub, l/r surround, l/r surround back, l/r single) for connecting to an external amp. The emotiva has a single unbalanced input or a single balanced input for each channel. How do I add an extra center channel? Does a cable with unbalanced and balanced connections exist? Is there any advantage?

That amp is a two channel amp if I am not mistaken. So, you can only use two channels from that Pioneer to send to that amp's unbalanced inputs. Probably best to send the left and right fronts. If you want the center, you need another amp.

Emotiva amp

To add an extra center channel, you will need to use 2 channels of the 7 channel emotiva amp. You will connect an RCA splitter to the center channel output on the receiver and two RCA cables to each of the amp channels for both center speakers. You will brobably want two identical center speakers because there is no way to independently adjust the levels of the two speakers.

No advantage to balanced cables unless you have a fully ballanced pre-pro like the Emotiva DMC-1.
