Connecting PC Sound Card to AV Receiver

I need to connect my PCs Sound Blaster Live to the AV Receiver via the Digital connection, the problem is that the connector for the digital on the sound blaster is a mini plug (like the one used with headphones), while the connection in the AV Receiver is a normal RCA coaxial.

Any idea how to do it?

Here is the correct way ;)

plug the 3.5 mm miin audio into your PC's sound blaster and connect the two RCA plugs to a spare input device on your AV receiver ( red=right white=left) example "CD"

Good luck!

here is an inexpensive version of the above :):

You may find that if you plug the above into your digital minijack port that one (or both) of the channels will transmit the digital audio. I don't know because I have never used that port on the SoundBlasters I have had in the past.

I would personally recommend that you go with the digital route with the adapter at the link that was mentioned above, if your sound card is in the list, as it is the most flexible and its not that expensive.

You can just use an 1/8" to 1/4" RCA adapter. I bought one of these for more connection options though, make sure it works with your model sound card.

No, no, no! Here's the right method... ;)

The digital output from the SB card is on a mono 1/8" jack. Therefore, you need a mono 1/8" to single RCA adapter like this. (Actually, you might be able to do it with a stereo cable. If you have one it won't hurt to try. But I know that the mono adapter will work.).

Plug that in, then run any RCA cable from that to the digital input on your receiver.

You don't need a special adapter.

You don't want to run analog to your receiver.

I have done exactly what you describe using an SB card with a digital output on a 1/8" jack, and I used the type of connection I linked above.

Good luck!

^What he said...

That's what I intended to say, I just wasn't looking in the right place for the 1/8" to RCA mono adapter, and didn't know readily if I had seen one, perhaps ever, which is why I suggested trying the stereo one. Thanks for clearing it up, Otto :).

EDIT: According to the reviews of that mono 1/8 to RCA product, the left channel of a stereo 1/8" to RCA adapter we were discussing above should also work, as I suggested previously.
