Connecting Optical cables

I have a Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver and was trying to plug in my DVD player to it using a TOS link optical cable, The dvd player is a Sony DVP-NC875V/B. For some reason I cannot plug in the cable either to the DVD player or the receiver. Am I missing something here, Do I have the wrong cable?. It simply will not go into the slot.. It appears to be the right size connector. It has a flat and round edge, So I am lining it up right.

My suggestion is see if you can borrow another optical cables from a friend. Both your receiver and DVD player have optical inputs and if you are lining up the connector properly so the flat edge matches on both the male and female parts it sounds like a cable issue.

Haven't heard of this issue before at least not on two components.

Two things to check:
Optical cables often have a small, clear plastic tube over the optical pin. This has to be removed.
Less likely is that the optical jack has a plastic plug that needs to be removed.
Both of these covers are designed to keep dust and grime off of the fiber.

Hope this helps......

You forgot to remove the little plastic piece on the end of the cable. I did the same thing.

more than likely that's it. I'm not at home right now but will check as soon as I am.. I knew it must be something obvious. Thx.
