Connecting my laptop to the TV

I just promised the wifey I would hook up her laptop to the TV so she could play her internet games on the big screen. Well... her laptop does not have a DVI or HDMI out... just VGA and S-Video.

Reading through my docs for the TV, it says it accepts only digital signals from a pc. I believe s-v is analog... correct?

Anyway, then I got to thinking I could run the S-video out to the Elite and pipe it to the TV via the HDMI connection.

Will that work? If there's a better way, I'm all ears.

Chris,

I can't see how the TV would know where the s-video signal was coming from. You should at least try to run the s-video to the TV. I'll bet you that it will work.

Perhaps the TV manual was simply referring to a lack of a VGA port?

Yeah I'm not sure. The manual references DVI or HDMI only. I'll dig out an s video cable and we'll see what happens.

The more that I think about it, the manual may be talking about which video inputs are compatible with the "PC Audio" input jack - assuming that your TV has one. Maybe I'll look up your owners manual...ewww, "American's Top Dog" just came on. Think I'll wait on that. :)

the mitsu input for computers is a dvi, however you can run s-video, you'll have to change the output resolution on the laptop 640x480 i believe, i ran vga to dvi, the manual will tell you what resoltion works best, and you might have to increase your font size in the appearance setup.

The TV won't care what is coming in through S-Video. It doesn't matter whether it's a PC or a DVD player. The picture quality won't be great but it will work. You shouldn't have to change the laptop screen resolution but you will have to enable the external display on the laptop (usually a function key on the keyboard).

Cool guys, thanks. I'll give it a shot tonight when I get home. I guess I can just run the svideo and run the mini headphone jack into a r/l composite splitter. We'll see how that works.
