I have an RCA receiver with DTS decoder capabilities, as well as my DVD Player. Now do i just connect the two directly to one another. using all the connections in both units?

Sorry for the lack of info guys (I'm new to this), my reciever is the RCA RT2500, and the DVD player is the Toshiba SD-6980. The manaul for the reciever shows something else that the decoder would plug to but its also an older amp. I'm not sure DVD players had decoders available when it came out.

Have a look at the manuals, they will show which connections to use for different situations. If you dont have manuals, try looking online for them. If you still cant work it out, reply with model information etc, so someone here can help you.

cheers:)

I'm pretty sure that you need to run cables from the 5.1 out of the back of the DVD player into the back of your receiver (which will take a lot of cables). The better alternative is to get an optical cable. Obviously this is for audio only and you will need separate cables to run your video.

Page 4 of your RCA's manual shows and explains how to connect your dvd player. If you lost your manual you can view it online here

From the manual:
If you have a SAT receiver or DVD player, you can make use of an optical digital connecting cord (not supplied) or coaxial digital connecting cord (not supplied) to enjoy DTS/ Dolby Digital sound quality. One optical/coaxial cable is needed for each SAT receiver / DVD player. When optical or coaxial cable is used, no more analog cable is needed.
Note: This receiver provides one optical and one coaxial digital input for the connection of your auxillary components. Please connect your components (e.g. DVD, SAT or CD) to the appropriate digital inputs and press SET/ DEMO and then rotate MULTI JOG to match your connection.
cheers:)
