Connecting Memorex Analog Surround to HDTV

I have a Memorex MA1400TH surround system receiver (analog with only the R & L connections) that I would like to connect to my Magnavox 51" digital TV. I've tried a few combinations but can't seem to get any sound from the speakers. Do I maybe need an RF modulator or some other interim component? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Let me ask, which model of TV do you have? That can help us look things up about it.

If the TV has left/right audio out jacks, you can connect those to a set of left/right audio in jacks on the receiver (you've probably already done that). Now, a lot of TVs will need to have their internal speakers shut off before they will output sound through those jacks. So, try going into the menu and turning off the speakers. There might also be an external switch on the TV for shutting off the speakers.

Also, some TVs have headphone jacks that can be used. You can get an inexpensive cable that will plug into the headphone jack on one end and have two RCA jacks to plug into the left/right inputs on the receiver on the other end. If you need something like that, let us know and we can point you towards a good cable.

Thanks, Adam. The TV is a Magnavox 51MP6100D. Yes, the standard red/white (right/left) cables are currently connected but aren't getting any sound out through the receiver to the surround speakers. I will try turning off the speakers to see if that has any impact.

There doesn't seem to be any way to turn off the speakers...either through the remote control or manually.

From the diagrams that I've found of that model, I don't see any analog (red/white) audio outputs. I can only see a digital output.

Here's a link for connecting the audio, which is much like what is in the connection guide. It only shows a digital connection.

I may have found info on the wrong model. Are you sure that the red/white jacks are for audio out on the TV?
