Hi,
I have a Denon 2807 hooked up via HDMI to a Panasonic AX100 U projector. I am trying to connect my Dish Network DVR/receiver to the Denon in order to be able to see TV through my projector. I have the standard Dish cable box "DISH Player-DVR 625" which supports 2 TVs and the receiver needs to be hooked to the second TV output. The cable box is on the first floor and hooked up to a TV, and the projector/receiver is in the basement and linked to TV2.

The TV1 output on the box supports RCA, Svideo and an optical digital output and the TV2 output supports RCA and a stereo agile modulated output.

I took the TV2 output and ran it through a VCR and connected the composite output of that to the composite inputs in the denon. when i switch it on, all i get is a blank screen. I read in some other posts that there may be a cable box issue here.

Can anyone recommend a work around? would I need to move my cable box to the basement? I would like to avoid this, if possible, but can do it if this is the only option.

Thanks..

Have you configured the receiver to do the up-conversion to HDMI?

I have. When I play a video tape, the picture comes through ok. It's only when I stop the tape and try to get TV through the same channel that it does not work.

Sat box connections

Why not take the VCR out of the equation and test the satelite box output connected directly to the Denon. If this works, then reconnect the VCR (if necessary) and use the TV/Video or Source button on the VCR to select the satelite box signal vs. the VCR output.

I think you will find that the SD Satelite and VCR don't look too good on your large projection screen. You might consider upgrading to an upscaling DVD player like an Oppo Digital for watching movies with the projector.

I do have the Oppo 981 connected for watching movies. All this effort is to be able to see 24 and the Superbowl on the big screen.

To fix the issue: Grab a small TV in your home wth a composite video input on it and hook it up to the VCR directly. It sounds to me like the issue may be with the satellite and the VCR, not with the 2807 or projector. You want to check, using a small TV, that you are in fact sending Dish video out of the VCR so the 2807 actually has something to work with.

I would recommend: Picking up a HD over the air receiver and hooking up an antenna so you get HDTV through your projector. The way you are doing it using modulated video from your Dish box is the absolute worst way to deliver video available.
