Ok I'm sort of new to this. Last time I had a decent stereo system there wasn't so many choices as to how to hook it up. When connecting my dvd player to the outlaw 990 pre pro should I use the single digital coax connection or should I use the left and right channel rca type analog connection. And are they the same exact style cables. Outlaw sent me a bunch of what they call pca cables but they look like an rca type connection except they are spun to lock them on. will these cables work for both connections.

You will want to use a digital connection for the DVD to pre/pro at the very minimum as that is the simplest and best way to get "true" 5.1 surround, as well as 6.1/7.1 when you're ready for that. Do not use the R&L stereo outs because you will only get, yep you guessed it: stereo. Another way would be if your player has multichannel analog outputs, you could connect all of those (you'll likely have to if it does DVD-A and SACD unless it and your player have firewire), but the pre/pro almost always has better bass management than the player for DVD movies.

I am not familiar with those cables, but I'd say you should try them out and see if they work. Analog cables may or may not work for a digital connection, so try it and if it works, you're good to go. Make sure you have enough connections for the amps first...:)
