There seems to be several ways of connecting my system.
Which is the best way?
The blueray has only one HDMI outlet. Receiver has several
Do I need a HDMI cable between TV and Receiver, then another HDMI cable from Receiver to Blueray?
Or can i connect the Blueray with a HDMI cable direct to the TV, using a digital optical cable from TV to Receiver ???
Note I want to play CDs on my Blueray?

HDMI all the way.. Your receiver has a HDMI input that is labeled BR. Then HDMI out from the receiver to the TV.

Give that Yamaha manual a review, it's has all the connections noted and setup information.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

If you want to take advantage of loss-less codec's like DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD you will need to run the HDMI from the Blu-ray player to the receiver and then to the TV.

You can connect it with HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver but then you will only get Dolby Digital.

I like to do all of my source switching in my receiver so when I go from satellite to blu-ray my receiver changes inputs but my TV uses the same input from the receiver and it only has to change in one component. If you use the optical to the receiver you will have to change sources on the receiver and then change the input on the TV as well. Do you have a decent universal remote?
