Connecting a 3rd Sub

Hi all!

New to the forum and had a question about connecting a 3rd subwoofer to my new system.

So.. I acquired a 5.2 Sony amp (STR-DH550), a pair of matching front firing Yamaha subs (YST-SW012) and a Polk Audio surround speaker set (TL1600).

The Polk system comes with down firing sub that I was thinking of connecting and putting at the other end of the room behind a couch.

Question is, I was thinking of using three Y connectors to create a third connection for the the sub but thought I would ask you folks if that's the best plan.

Why three y-connectors? One should do it on one of the avr's sub pre-outs (one pre-out per sub essentially). You may have issues integrating a dissimilar sub at a different distance.

Well, I was just worried about unbalancing the signal. Not something to worry about? Plan was two single male to double female connectors (one on each sub out on the amp) and then bring one from each of those back with a double male to single female connector for the third amp to connect to.

I was going to have it turned down compared to the other two. If it sucks I can always put it back in the box :)

You lost me at the double male to single female part. I'd just use one single male to double female connector then one cable from each female port to each sub....

PS Balanced vs unbalanced is a whole 'nother thing; rca cables are inherently unbalanced. If you mean something else please 'splain.

Gotcha ;) OK I'll try that first and see how it sounds... already ordered the cables so can't do much about that.

Thanks for the help!

Don't do it! It's too much of a headache to try to integrate and optimize 3 subs. Just go all the way and go 4 subs.
