Connecting 6.1 system on a 7.1 receiver

I have a 6.1 system and most receivers out there are 7.1. When connecting the rear center speaker of my 6.1 system to the 7.1 receiver, do I connect it to the rear surround right, rear surround left, or does it even matter.

I realize I could add another surround speaker and go 7.1, but WAF has become an issue, and I'd prefer not to take another change to the council for approval.

Your manual should explain what channel to connect a single surround to. You also have to set the RX to tell it that you have 6 speakers connected.

Some RX's may auto detect your setup.

If you lost your manual, just try hooking it up to the L or R rear surround and snoop around in the RX's menu for configuring your speaker setup.

Most say the left rear, but check the manual to be sure.
