Connect "unactive??" subwoofer to amp??

Hi there I have a question concerning sub connection to my amp.
I have a STRDB2000 Sony receiver and an unknown brand "active" subwoofer. Yesterday I was going to watch a bluray, but the active sub would not power on. So my question is can I just connect the two subwoofer speaker terminals inside the sub box to the subwoofer output on my amp? (3.5mm audio jack connection)

Odds are the sub output on your source doesn't provide enough power to drive a speaker. I strongly doubt you would get any sound at all by bypassing the sub's internal power amp.
