Connect a subwoofer via speaker wire?

When I had my house built, one of the option was a home theater prewire. I told them what I wanted, but I forgot to include something for the subwoofer. It turns out that they installed more wiring than I actually need for my surround speakers (they put in 2 2 strand wires and 2 4 strand wires) So even I could theoretically go all the way to 8.1 and still have a pair free. My subwoofer is not an extremely high quality affair, it is a JBL that came in a package with 5 sattellite speakers. Would it be possible to adapt the wiring in the wall to an RCA connection and use that for th sub connection?

No, your subwoofer is a line level signal and is designed to be sent down a shielded cable with RCA terminations. You could always do another run of coax yourself (RG-6 coax is cheap), or you can just purchase a pre-terminated cable and run it out of wall. But no, this will not work for your subwoofer.

You will need to run a new cable for the subwoofer :(

You can run inside or outside the wall (or ceiling if possible). Fairly easy run since you only have to pull one cable to each location you want a powered subwoofer.
