Just recieved my new Yamaha Rx-v2500 a couple of weeks ago and seem to be having a problem. My sub doesn't have near the output that it did with my 10 year old yamaha reciever. I hooked up the old one again to double check, and sure enough it really thumps? I tried setting the level to max with only minor changes to output. I tried all crossover settings with no real change. Any help from anyone would be great!!

Verify that your other speakers are set to "small" and that subwoofer is set to "yes" or "enabled" (I'm not familiar with the RX-V2500 menus).

And after you did as jaxvon suggested, level match all channels. The LFE channel may be set low internally.

Another suggestion or two:

I'm assuming that you probably have gone through the auto-set-up process for your receiver (with the microphone, etc.), but if not you should. You probably want to have the sub-woofer's own level control set somewhere around mid-range, so that the auto-set-up has both head-room and "floor-room" to adjust the LFE output appropropriately.

Yamaha's auto-set-up works pretty well, most of the time. But it sometimes sets speaker-size wrong, so that is one thing to double-check using the manual set-up menus. Also, it may get the phase setting of the sub-woofer wrong. This can result in a lot of cancellation of low frequencies, especially if you have your front speakers set to Large. One other thing to try is to manually reverse the phase of the LFE output.

...in addition make sure the sub out is set to 'sub' or 'both' meaning mains and sub. Crossover should be set at max/highest on sub itself and then sellect x-over freq with 2500's crossover settings. Try 80hz with speakers set to small size setting. As mentioned, the auto setup may give you a prompt that speakers are out of phase. Ignore this if you know that you have speaker cables pos to pos and neg to neg on speakers. I use the auto setup settings for movies which I store as memory 1 setting. I then set peq to my own liking manually and saved that setting as memory 2. This way I can choose which setting directly from remote(which gives quick access to memory 1 and 2)that I want whether I am listening to music or watching/listening to movie. The 2500 has a lot of tweeking capabilities. With time and patience you will get it right. Enjoy.
