Confused weather to buy BIC Venturi or Acoustech.

I have heard alot of good things about both types of speakers. But I am going to use it for home theater use only don't really care for musical use. Any opinions out there.

I will be able to give an opinion on the Acoustechs in a few days when the rest of the componants are delivered. I bought a set of Venturi towers used for next to nothing and have been very happy with them for almost 10 years, but now that I'm finally upgrading to 5.1 I figured it was time to retire them. I initially shopped new Venturis but after a little research I went with the Acoustechs. The Acoustech sub is supposed to be noticably better than the Venturi line but I haven't heard much else about how the two lines compare to each other. But for the money you can't really go wrong with either. I bought my Acoustechs a piece at a time when the occasional great deal would pop up on ebay & ubid and only spent about $750 total inc. delivery for the whole enchilada.

I am thinking about these two as well. I think that for HT, you are going to like the acoustechs. They were designed for HT, as per a review I read on them quoting the lead engineer. They have horn tweeters, which many say are bright. BIC says that they allow a greater dynamic range, especially important in HT. The Venturi's have standard round tweeters. Some (Ed Frias for one) say these are bright too, but can be fixed with a crossover mod.

The acoustechs, at least in photos, look much better to me. That would give them the WAF edge in my book. The HT100 sub has received good "press" on the forums, but I personally would get a bigger Hsu sub for my 3500 sq ft room.

I have a a 10 inch BIC Venturi sub and think it's just OK. It cannot handle the Nemo tap on glass scene so it's gotta go:D It is quite capable of most HT needs. It handles the Incredibles quite well IMHO.

Personally, I am leaning toward the acoustechs with a Hsu STF-2 or 3.

Good luck,

For Home Theater, I would probably lean towards Acoustechs

I actually purchased the Venturi's, but I'm a music first, home theater second type, and for my musical tastes, I thought the Venturi's would be a better fit, and I think they sound great. From what I have read (I've never heard the Acoustech's), Home Theater is the Acoustech's strength, and I think those speakers look great as well. There are plenty of guys with Acoustech's on the forum, and I've never heard a real negative comment.

Horn loaded vs. cone

The Acoustechs have horn loaded tweaters and are modeled after Klipsch speakers. This type of speaker is very efficient and can be driven to high SPLs with less amp power.
I would go down to the local big box store and audition some Klipsch speakers to determine if you like the horn loaded sound. This might help you decide on the two product lines from BIC.

The acoustech speakers sound nothing like the Klipsch synergy speakers carried by Best Buy. The closest thing would be the RF-35's. THey have a very similar sound.
