Ok I just purchased a pioneer PDP 5050HD. when using the remote ON/OFF it puts the TV and media box into standby mode...Do I need to physically push the on/off buttons on the moniter and media box when i go to bed at night?

there was another thread about this that got too techie...looking for a yes/no and brief explain

Turning the Set-top and the TV off (stand-by) with the remote is fine. I have never read anything that tells you to do anything else. (We sell pioneer plasma where I work, and I have installed quite a few of them.)

Hope this helps.

How far away are you sitting from your pioneer PDP-5050HD? I'm in the process of getting a plasma and the pioneer PDP-5050HD is my top choice. I will be sitting 10' away from it and it will be mounted over the fireplace? Is 10' too close for a 50" plasma?

confused by standby

Me TOO!---considering the same pioneer plasma over fireplace at 10-11 ft.
Do I still need the media box if I have a Dish network HD receiver and a 7.1
receiver (DENON 3805)?

Ricwilli-I am about 12' away and it is not too bad. however I would think about how high the TV is going to be above the fire place...People are going to be looking fairly high up to see it over a fireplace... kinda like sitting in the front row of move theater. when I got the TV home..50" is BIG.. the picture is great but I have cable tv and it looks OK.. movies and Hi def over the air are INSANE. I would get some tape and mock it up and sit and take a look. e73bass. the media center allows you to run HDMi and power only to the TV...I have my yamie do all the switching for the dvd and cable and run component into the tv box..I also am running over air TV into the hdtv tuner.

fyrmedic01@hotm, when you watch tv, do you get that "screen door" affect from 12' away. I read some where that a 42" is best from a 10' distance :( . You see, I have the money to buy the 5050 but if i'm going to see all of the pixels (I think thats what you call them) from 10' feet away than I might have to go smaller and I really don't want to do that.

No, you won't see interpixel gap or single pixels at that distance. The Pioneers are excellent displays with excellent blacks and color. But, I have a cheapie Sampo ($3,200) in the 50" size and while I'm not thrilled with the color or blacks, the sharpness of the image is outstanding.

no screen door effect..as a matter of fact when I was shopping for Tv's the customer service rep at pioneer said the PDP is the same as the elite sans a few options that I was not concerned(sp) with.
