Confused about matching speakers to receiver.

I’m hoping someone can help with a few questions I have. I’m new to home theater setups and I’ve spent the last 6 months researching and learning about all the technical side of it but now I’m more confused than when I first started! The more I read the more confused I get.

My first question is about matching speakers and receiver. I’m going to buy a pair of either Yamaha NS-555 or NS-777 for my front side speakers and a NS-444 for the center. I’m going to move the pair of Yamaha NS-50f I have to the rear speakers and use a cheap Yamaha subwoofer I have (I will upgrade later to something better). I bought a Yamaha RX-A1000 thinking it had 105 watts per speaker to run all the speakers but I’m worried I may have bought a receiver that won’t run the speakers. My question is will the receiver work fine with the speakers? I will list the specs for them:

Receiver

7.2-Channel Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven): 105W (8ohms, 0.06% THD)

Yamaha also states 7-channel 735W (105W x 7)

NS-555

Nominal 100

6 ohms

Sensitivity 88

NS-444

Nominal 100

6 ohms

Sensitivity 89

NS-50f

Nominal 80

6 ohms

Sensitivity 91

Additional information - I sit about 2.8 meters away from the front speakers and 2.5m from the surrounds.

Question 2, have I read correctly and it is 105 watts per each channel? I've read people say it's 105WPC but in the specs it says for 2 channel driven.

My other question I’m confused about is if I don’t use the two rear channels to make it 7.1 and with using 6 ohm speakers with the receiver being 8 ohms. Does either of that increase the power to the 5 speakers being used?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Unless you plan to play very loud you probably dont need to worry, you also dont sit very far away from the speakers.

Those are inexpensive speakers and arent made to be used with very expensive and powerful amps so they should be more than fine on that Yamaha.

And again its the volume you play at which decides how much power is used/needed.

I'm sure Yamaha speakers will work just fine with Yamaha AVRs. :D

If you have doubts regarding any speakers, just start the volume low. Then gradually increase the volume. If everything sounds great at the final volume you want, then it's all good.

But again, I'm sure Yamaha speakers will work just fine with Yamaha AVRs.

What Leemix said. Also, why those speakers? You could probably do a lot better than them for the money. What's your speaker budget?

All channels at rarely play all out at once unless you use all channel stereo mode.

Fewer amp sections used = more power avalible from the powersupply to the remaining ones.

The 2 channel rating is what really counts anyway. With the exception of some 5.1 content the front 2 see the bulk of the action.

I think it depends on the AVR.

For example, Yamaha has the 9Ch Stereo Mode. Yet, on the test bench, all the Yamaha AVR and amps (even the MX-A5200 11Ch amp) will go into Protection Mode if more than 5Ch is driven simultaneously.

Thus, not ALL 9Ch of amps are driven in the Yamaha 9Ch Stereo Mode. :D

Thank you all for the replies! I'm glad they will all go together.

NINaudio, there's a few reasons. I live in a small town where speakers never come up for sale so I have to wait for them to come up on ebay with postage. I'm in Australia and there's a seller that constantly has them up for sale and will post them. The NS-555 tend to sell for around $300AUD which is around my budget (maybe $400). Very few sellers post speakers. Because I'm new to all of this, I'm worried if I pick up some expensive speakers, I may not notice a broken speaker due to my inexperience. At least I have buyer protection via ebay. I plan on eventually upgrading to something better in the future, I just don't want to go all out while I'm still learning.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Astropug,

I have the yamaha rx-v667, (so an older amp), I run the ns-777 for the fronts, 2 x ns-444 for the centre, (parallel wired) 2 x sony 10 inch subs, ns-50f towers for rear L&R, 2 x ns-333 and 2 x ns-c444 parallel wired for the rear surrounds. Speaker wire is 12g ofc, braided with banana plugs, (I made these up, saved heaps) and have cables made up so I can bi amp the ns-777's for the 2 channel options as well.
Our seating is about 3mt away.
It's an epic system that works well together, amp runs it all really well.
I love it.

I'm in oz too , bought my gear used, (except for the cabling)
