Hi there!
I'm newbie in this forum and on audio in general so excuse by advance my ignorance. I am seeking your advice as i am willing to purchase a very nice config for my new appartment and i am sure plenty of you have precious advises.

My system has to be able to cope with 500sqft (45sqm) so i guess i need a powerful system. Priority is on the quality of the audio and second on video. I am looking at 2 front speakers + potentially subwoofer. I am not fan of rear speakers as i dun want wires to run all over...

One of my friends suggested me the following config and before investing i'd prefer to let it to your criticism. This is the details:

A/v amp: Pioneer SC-LX83
Speakers: KEF Q900

I am starting from scratch :) Today i have nothing!
Questions: i read here and there that the pioneer sounds a bit clinical and thus i should choose speakers on the warm side. Do you have the same feedback and would you suggest i'd rather go on Yamaha av amp?
Do you have general feedback on the configuration above?

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi
Thanks for your answer. Indeed i am located in Singapore. Here the sales are not of very good advice as they talk about promotions before even trying to understand what i want!

Actually that was going to be my next question, with high end such as the KEF 900 speakers does one really need subwoofer? Or is it just for the cinema?

Will have a look at the references you advised and see if there is a reasonable and smart retailer around :)

Thanks again!

Human hearing goes down to about 20 Hz, the Kef 900 has good output spec’d down to 32 Hz. That will accommodate the vast majority of music and movie soundtracks. My speakers offer a similar frequency response and I was ignorantly happy with my 2.0 setup with HT for many years. But if you want a great HT experience, or to cover the lower-end, a good sub is required.

If you think that you’d be happy with just a 2.0 setup, then you may want to consider a stereo receiver or pre-amp/amp setup instead of a full blown AVR.
