conduit to protect low voltage from high voltage

Hi-

I want to run a conduit from my basement to my attic for running low-voltage cables in the future. The cavity that I was going to run the conduit in also has Romex in it. The conduit would be parallel to the Romex for the whole run! Will the conduit protect the low-voltage wires from the magnetic interference caused by the Romex? Does it matter what type of conduit I use to do this? Flexible? Solid PVC?

Thanks,
Chris

The conduit wont protect aginst EMI from the ac lines, Unless it were that metal conduit and you grounded it, Which is not very feasible.

The type of conduit you run basically depends on the situation. If this is new construction use solid conduit and make it as big as you can. And if possible find a way to move it away from the romex. In all reality tho, As long as your a good foot or so away and use sheilded cables your not likely to have any problems. I've seen some pretty sketchy installs that worked fine.

Thanks for the info. So even if I use the UL rated grey PVC piping if there's a romex wire laying right next to it, it's as if the conduit isn't even there? That stinks.

Thanks,
Chris
