Hi there, I was at Best Buy the other day and found a pair of Bose desktop speakers. They are they Bose Companion 2 Series II. I thought they sounded pretty good, but wasn't sure if I really wanted to buy them. I went home and started doing some research. I probably should have just bought the Bose, because now I have found so many choices. I just want to upgrade my laptop speakers a bit. So far, I've seemed to narrow it down to the Bose, a Boston Acoustics MM226, Klipsch PM21 ProMedia 2.1, or a Klipsch Groove PM20 2.0. I've read some reviews and I think it's kind of a toss up. If you have some suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
All of the units you have listed are rather low in quality. If you want a really high quality 'computer speaker', side step this junk and get a good quality mini studio monitor. The KRK Rokit 5 is one that I highly recommend. It is magnitudes of an order higher quality in all ways compared to the above listed speakers. It will produce you with true high-fidelity. It has a far more considerably enclosure, likely far better quality amplifiers and very high quality drivers and crossover design. $300 is the regular street price for a pair. Note that they are usually sold EACH for $150. So, you need to buy 2 to get a pair.
Note: This is a serious audio tool, not flashy low quality consumer product intended to be just good enough to play back a common quality 128kbps mp3 and video game.
The monitors have a solid output to 60Hz or so, which is considerable for such a small monitor, as they do keep relatively low distortion while doing it, as I can state from my measurements/analysis of this product. I measured the original G1 version, but I will presume the G2 is of comparable quality - it seems to have only tried to be improved - such as with the new high radius front to reduce baffle diffraction further. If you can find the G1 original, then by all means get it, as it definitely is a superb deal.
Here are my measurements of the KRK Rokit 5:

There is no sub, but seriously, you can add one later on if you need to.
