Component video switching on a Yamaha RX-V1...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am rewiring my receiver. Up until now I have been running my DVD player and HD cable using component cables directly to the HDTV. I am thinking about running them through the Yamamha so I will only have one set of component cables running to the TV. I know the Yamaha won't upconvert the composite video, which I use to view the receiver settings on the TV and when I rarely use the VCR, to component so I will have to run a composite video cable as well. I guess my question is, is there any reason to not run them through the receiver? I have heard that running video through the receiver will degrade the picture some. Is that true?

I am not aware that you will find test results about video quality being degraded by running it through a V1, but there are definitely some receivers where signal degragation occurs. The possibility of the signal looking worse exists, though most people can't see any loss of quality.

The reason many people run component through their receivers is that they may not have enough component inputs on their display or that it simplifies switching since the TV is put on component 1, then all video switching occurs through the receiver.

I'm running my HD and DVD through my Denon 3805 with no noticable degragation in PQ. The ease of switching inputs in very high on the WAF. Give it a shot, you will probably not notice a difference.
