I have a Toshiba sd510 dvd player and Toshiba 32zd26 TV.
Both are progressive scan compatible
I want the best connection possible but am not sure which output to use.
RGB is not compatible. Do I use S-video or Video?

I looked up both these devices. Both say they are component video (progressive scan) capable.

To get the "best" (i.e. progressive scan) picture use the three component video pin connections (these are not RGB) to connect them. The S-Video and composite video output do not support progressive scan.

You may have to configure the TV to use the component video inputs. Also the DVD player may need to be told to output on component and to go into progressive mode. Check your owners manuals for this info.

Thanks for your reply Eric.

I already have the physical component cables set up. Its the menu on the DVD i am not sure about. I have set my TV up for Progressive scan input and my dvd is set up for Progressive Scan in 'Film' Mode, both of which are selected by seperate sub menus on my dvd player, within the video menu. However there is another sub menu within the video menu that allows either a RGB, Video or Svideo output from the DVD player. Its this selection that I am not sure about. If RGB(scart cable) is selected the screen goes blank. So im am left with video or Svideo. The instructions do not make it clear which is best.

I could only find the SD520 instructions So I'll assume the two players are similar. I see now what you're asking about.

The manual says

Quote

Notes

• When you connect a TV equipped with the component
video inputs or a PROGRESSIVE TV (525P (480P)),
select “Video” or “S Video”. 19
• If the on-screen display disappears immediately after
you select “RGB”, you can restore it by connecting the
DVD player using the VIDEO OUT (yellow) jack.

I can see how that would confuse you!

When you're using the component video outputs (by selecting Video or S Video) the selection of Video or S Video has no impact on the picture. The signal coming out of the component jacks is 480P if you selected progressive mode.

The menu selection seems to steer the video out the Video or the S Video outputs. In both selections the component video pin jacks are enabled. Selecting RGB turns off the component outputs and steers the video out the RGB connector(SCART).

Let me know if this works for you.

thanks Eric. It seems as though your info is spot on.
video/s video seems to make no difference at all.
