Hello:

I'm a newcomer to this site: I have a 20" Sharp TV and a separate Samsung DVD player. I was at ABC Warehouse & was advised component video cables would provide better clarity on my DVD player. I bought for $40 a set of Acoustic Research cables (24K gold-plated, nitrogen-injected dielectric, silver coated oxygen free solid copper conductors). I also picked up a set of Monster audio cables for $20. I could have bought cheaper cables but was advised what I bought was the better buy. What do you think? Did I waste my money on these cables?

Thanks,

John

Both cables you purchased are a good value. The AR's in particular have better cosmetics, more shielding, and better terminations. The price you paid is very reasonable.

Hello again:

I hooked up the AR component video cables & when I power up the DVD I get a pink screen when I put in a DVD. I took the cables back to where I bought them & they had the same result & gave me a new set up cables. They said I had a bad cable. So I get home, hook up the new cables again. First I get a blue screen which looks normal but then it goes pink just like before.

I need your advice.

Stupid question, do you use the same color coding from the DVD player to your TV when connecting? Also, do your cables have a ferrite slapped on one end? If so, make sure that end is placed at the source side.

Give me more particulars of your set-up. Is your DVD player hooked directly to your TV? Does it only do it in progressive scan? Does it do it with your other cables? Etc.

Hi Gene:

Figured out the problem. The video out select switch on the back of the dvd player was in the wrong position. Now it works fine. Pink tint is gone.

Thank you for your suggestions.
