Component Video Bandwidth

I have seen on various posts concerns about component video bandwidth. It would seem that if a receiver has 100mhz bandwidth compared to 40mhz it would be superior. The real question is how much bandwidth is actually needed?
In my own experience, 40mhz is plenty of bandwidth for 1080i and 720p sources. I have tested this on various cheap and midpirced receivers and the results are the same.
Ideally, if this is really a concern the receiver should not be used to switch HD sources. (Although most of us are forced to with DVD, HD, Video game console, replaytv / tivo).

I have read various articles in which there were different answers for this topic. Can someone elucidate on this topic, doing so may enlighten myself and others who may be concerned...
