Component to DVI to HDMI???

I have a Sony ht-ss2300 HTiB that is in a closet far away (40 ft of cable through the attic) from my HDTV. Unfortunately, it ONLY has digital and HDMI inputs for video. It does have analog audio inputs however. I have all inputs going to the AVR, and one HDMI cable ran through the walls and into the TV.

Now I need to get my new Wii hooked up into this system. The Wii only has component video outputs. Is there any way I can convert my component video to DVI, then to HDMI? I have found component video to DVI-I adapters, and DVI-D to HDMI adapters. Will those connect together? Is there another way to do this? I am very frustrated...

BTW, Wii connected direct to TV is not an option due to running more wires through attic and wall, and wife won't have it on the mantle.

What you want to do is not possible. Component is analog, HDMI is digital. Therefore you would need a costly analog to digital converter, like this.

I've been looking for a cheap solution for you, but haven't found one, yet.

To answer your question, though, there are no cables that will convert component video to HDMI. Component video is analog, and HDMI is digital. You need an electronic box to do that conversion, and they are not inexpensive.

ok then how about this idea....I run a video RCA cable from the the Wii to the TV through the wall. Then, I attach the two audio RCA's from the Wii directly to the AVR. Will that work?

also, what is the difference between DVI-I and DVD-D?? Will the two connect together?

Yes, that will work. DVI exists in both analog and digital formats, both incompatible with each other. DVI is analog, DVI-D is digital and DVI-I is integrated and has analog and digital on different pins in the same connector.

You can can never go from analog to digital signals with out an active converter, and vice versa, an ADC and DAC respectively.
