Component out on Denon 3805

I am looking for opinions on using the component out on the Denon 3805. I just picked up a Yamaha DVD S657 (so far, looks like an excellent unit) and I tried wiring it directly to my TV with component cables. The picture looks a little sharper than the way i had the DVD player set up before, going into the Denon receiver, then out to the TV from the receiver via component cables.

Well I would like to keep it like this, however, i don't get on screen menus from my receiver if there is no cables to the TV. Furthermore, the picture on my TV cablebox looks nicer going through the Denon receiver for some reason than direct from cable box to TV via S Video cable. My Tv only has one component in jacks. So I am looking for suggestions. If I want on screen menus from the receiver i need to hook it up to the TV somehow but I want to keep the DVD player direct to the TV. Help!!

Do most people here plug all their components into their receiver and use the component out on their receiver to the TV??

I plug my component cables of the dvd player into the 3805, along with the digital cable box (component), and from there, to the one component in on the tv set. I don't notice any degradation in picture quality. One remote makes life so much easier.

Ditto. You should not see any improvement or degradation in the picture quality switching through the 3805.

If your DVD player has picture controls, maybe compensate sharpness a tad to "boost" what you may be missing (or think you may be missing). The 3805 has 100MHZ bandwidth; DVD players may cap at 40 or less. There shouldn't be any clipping of the signal...

unlike my Panny DVD player, this Yamaha has no sharpness control. My only complaint.

First of all, does your TV have any DVI or HDMI inputs? If so, use those from the Cable Box if possible and then just use the component for the DVD player

Just make sure your picture controls aren't global for ATSC. Sometimes though, digital video inputs don't let you adjust much of anything...
