Are all componet cables and where they plug into in a standard order? do they vary by companies. For example left to right, green-blue-red. It seem one component cable I have I need to cross them to plug. Is it bad to cross the wires?

Unfortunately the order of the jacks on components may not be the same. But crossing coax cable is not a problem. Just try not to kink them.

Like MajorLoser said, crossing the wires over each other will make no difference in picture quality. Just make sure you are using component (coaxial) cables and the colors are going to the right channel (red to red, blue to blue, green to green).
