on a scale of 1-10 how much of an improvement do component cables make over the single RCA video input? I'm getting a 52" HDTV upgrading my 27" Tube TV and am wondering if it is worth the little extra money?

An insane amount. There is NO comparison. Even upgrading to S-Video is a substantial difference, with Component being far better.

Where were you planning on shopping for component video cables?

A single composite RCA cable would look really bad compared to component on your new TV.

I am a huge fan of the SONICWAVE cables from Impact Acoustics

I'm sure their velocity cables would also do a very good job for about half the price of the SONICWAVEs.

I don't have any experience with them, but a lot of people on this forum seem to like Blue Jeans Cables

One word: Rona.

I just picked up 250feet of 12ga. speaker wire for 100bucks there. They sell good video cables and are not monster expensive.

The other suggestions are fine and Radio Shack will have perfectly fine component cable at competetive price as well.

I upgraded to component video cables for my 27 inch crt tv, and I hardly notice a difference. If you have a digital tv component cables are a must to watch movies in progressive scan and get the best picture quality. Do you guys think Avia will help my component video look better?

I have tried several cables and hardly see any difference in video quality,I run the best cable from audioquest for component and see no change,Also tried AR,blue jeans, monster and others with no change,I normally ran a single video to my sony 43" from my monitor out on receiver and video quality is just as good,So really you blow your money when you could spend it on some thing else.

As 5.1 DTS Guy mentioned, to get progressive scan with a capable player you MUST use component or DVI/HDMI.

When switching between various component cables, you have to recalibrate for each one, otherwise you WON'T see any difference with the same settings on your display. I've tried a number of component cables too, and Blue Jeans are my favorite so far.

I presume you are talking digital cable TV box? Maybe it is not sending component video out? Have you called the cable company?

Or, are you sure you connected the right colors at each end?

go down to Wally World...

very good component cable set ($10): http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=1717306&cat=4537&type=19&dept=3944&path=0:3944:133276:133270:4537

slightly better construction ($23):

and yes, they are what I run on my system (Phillips on main system, RCA on bedroom HT, more because they only had one of each in stock when I was there than actual preference)

I had this problem with a DVD player the component cable hookup wasn't active from the factory you had to set it to be active. My picture was similar, the color was off but you could see the picture. Just a thought.
