Component cabinet build

I will be building a cabinet for my home theater equipment. My plan is to have ventilation holes on the bottom, sides and rear of the cabinet. The back of the cabinet with also be removeable for easy access to all of the components.

How much space should there be on each side and the top of each component in order to allow for proper ventilation?

I am also planning on having a enclosed space on the left side of the unit so I can house my sub-woofer inside of the cabinet.

Is it better to leave the back of the cabinet open where the sub-woofer is housed and fire the sound out the back towards the wall or out the front?

How much space should I have between the sides and top of the sub and the cabinet sides?

I don't have the sub yet, I will build the cabinet accordingly and then fit in a sub accordingly as well.

Of course each item will have it's own shelf within the unit.

Thank You
Mike

For the audio gear, the items that get hot should have the most ventilation, so if you have a hefty receiver or external amplifier, that will want a few inches above it.

There are plenty of threads on placing any speakers inside another cabinet. Pretty much not a good idea. If you have to do it, I would go with a speaker cover type material for the front of that cabinet door and let it fire out the front. You will most likely want a sealed sub as well.

Agreed, don't house your speakers.

Please post pics on your progress with construction! I'll be building a small unit for my new Emotiva equipment next week so I'll post up for that.

Good luck!
