I just received my Pioneer Elite VSX-82TSX today. Because this receiver does upconverting and upscaling; I want to run componat from my DirecTv receiver to the Pioneer and up convert it to HDMI. As apposed to running HDMI from the DTV box to receiver and passing it through. Will there be any quality lose since the Pioneer will do a full digital upconvert.

Only reseason I ask is I am one HDMI cable short, and I am all settled in for the evening and just want to connect this beast. If there will be a quality loss then I will get another HDMI cable.

It's a hot debate right now in other threads.

Personally, I think you'd have a tough time noticing a difference. Also, I'm beginning to think hdmi is overrated. They fall out of the receiver easily, which is my biggest peeve. My dvi was bulkier, but it never budged once the screws were snug.

Use your component and hdmi cables and enjoy your new toy for the evening. Who knows? Maybe you won't even bother with the hdmi cable! :D
