Complicated Audio issue

Hi:

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. Please let me know if the question would be better asked in another forum.

I have an audio issue that's beyond my ability to understand.

I have an older (2009) Panasonic Plasma. It has a digital audio out but no headphone jack. I bought a Goronya Digital to Analog Converter.

I connected a Toslink cable to "out" on the Panny and to "in" on the converter. I plugged the headphones into the headphone jack on the converter.

I have the following devices connected to the TV:

1.)DISH Hopper 3 DVR plugged into HDMI 1

2.) Sony Blu Ray plugged into HDMI 2

3.) Amazon Fire Stick plugged into HDMI 3

I get audio through the headphones for the DVR but that's the only audio I get. If I change the input to HDMI 2 -- I get the video for what's playing on the Blu ray but the audio is still from the DVR.

It's the same with the Amazon Firestick. I get the video but the audio is still from the DVR.

I went into the advanced audio settings on the Panny.

HDMI 1 audio is set to "digital"
HDMI 2 and 3 are not lit up so I can't change those audio settings

1.) How do I get the audio through the headphones when switching from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and 3.

2.) My headphones don't have volume controls. Is there a way to control the volume when using the headphones with the converter?

Thanks a lot!

You should post your TV's exact model number and maybe someone even more bored than me would be willing to read the manual for you, but my educated guess says than you're out of luck and you need to get yourself an a/v receiver.
Volume control on the receiver would also control your headphones volume.

If you ever wanted to listed to TV without headphones and your TV speakers suck anyhow, get a pair of these to connect to the receiver.

Thanks for the reply. I listen to TV through headphones because I live next to a freeway ... The active noise cancelling blocks out the very loud traffic noise.

The TV is a Panasonic TH-65PZ850U. I can't find anything that helps me -- but I don't know what I'm doing ...

Thanks again.

Not sure what the A/D converter is gaining you, using its headphone output jack when the TV already has one. That probably has its volume controlled by the TVs remote, I might add...

That said, many TVs’ digital outputs will not send a Dolby Digital 5.1 encoded bitstream from any source components plugged into it. So try going into the menu of your various source components and changing their digital output from 5.1 to PCM.

2.) My headphones don't have volume controls. Is there a way to control the volume when using the headphones with the converter?
Plug the headphones into the TV and ditch the converter.

Thanks

I set the outputs to PCM which helped with some issues. The TV doesn't have a headphone jack ... Do you have information that indicates otherwise?

Thanks

He says it doesn't have a headphone jack. Looking at the manual that is borne out, he has the optical output he's trying now but I also see analog rca output jacks.

@dobe10 have you tried a cable like this to connect your headphones to the analog jacks? https://www.amazon.com/30S1-01260-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable-Connector/dp/B000I23TTE

No I haven't. That would be great if it was that simple.

So you think connecting that cable to the "To audio AMP Prog out" right and left RCA audio outs would work? The "To Audio Amp" and "Prog Out" confused me.

Thanks

Don't know if it will have volume controlled by the set, it may be line level like the digital out (I didn't see it in the manual but it may be there); you may also have to change settings to match analog out. These outputs, or even the optical out, should work with a typical headphone amp if the volume control doesn't work.
