Hello, I stumbled upon this forum looking for a quick hint on setting up my speakers to an old pioneer SX-205 and having my laptop sound come through them. I have the black and red of the y cable in the back of the receiver marked cd, the other end in the "headphones" jack of the laptop, the speaker wires plugged in and ready to go (black to black, colored to red) but I'm still not getting any audio. Could anyone help me troubleshoot?

Thanks, this is kind of embarrassing considering who my dad is... but he's not answering his phone! Any help is appreciated!

Well, first things first.

Laptop sound volume up (or at least not muted)?
Is the Pioneer set to CD?

Can you plug in some headphones to be sure the sound card is configured properly?

Try both speaker outputs - A and B

Try a different input

Does the radio work (even if static - is it getting sound to the speakers)?

Yes to headphones working!

No to radio working :(

There are 4 sets of AB's on this model and I have plugged the wires into each of them without success.

Could it be that I have the wrong wires in? One set of wires is green and black and the black is in the - and the green is in the + is that correct?

Thank you so much btw!!!

Do your speakers have a black and red or +/- marking on them, or are they such that the wires are attached?

In any case, if you had the +/- switched, they would still produce sound. It would likely just lack some bass response.

Hmmm. Does the Pio have an headphone output of it's own? Can you plug in some phones to see if anything is coming out of that?

I'm still looking...

It doesn't matter which wire goes to + or -, just that it is consistent between the R and L speakers. Try setting the receiver to FM to see if you get any sound at all through the speakers (even static). If not, you'll need to get that working first.

I don't have the phones for the front of th receiver, and I can't get any radio through the tuner. It stinks, I unhooked hings to paint but they were all working just fine!

Just got my phone call and got talked through it, I had to push the corresponding button on the front of the receiver with the speakers I had selected.

Thank you so much! It's funny that I'm messing with my mid-90's receiver, my 12 inch sonys which are even older, when I have a pretty pair of Rockport Technologies Procyons in my home theater that aren't even hooked up. It's true, the carpenters house is never finished ;)

You guys are great though~

Check out the Rockport Technologies site for fun when you get a chance :)
