Per another thread, I am trying to build a budget audio system in a large 5th wheel camper. I have 12VDC and 120VAC available to me. I am trying to keep this as simple as I can, and I will remove the system when I sell the thing. I have likely resolved to using my Pioneer Elite receiver to power a pair of large bookshelf speakers as mains. Then that leaves me to figure out the bottom end. I will likely run a single 12" sub but I would like to get the most i can from it, within $ reasoning.
What has always surprised me is how few high power HT home audio subs are out there! Most are 300W and under. There are certainly bigger ones, and JL certainly builds a very serious HT sub, but that is hardly affordable! But when you get in car audio stuff, the Xmax is big, power handling is big, etc. Hell, entry level subs can handle 300W.
Am I missing something? Should I just resolve to do a car audio sub to get the power I want? Which is probably min 1000W RMS. Will I use all that power? Not sure! More than anything, I like to leave a lot of headroom. Always seems to sound better that way.
I guess I have never just stuck an HT sub in a car to see what it does.
