I have a Sony BDP 5000es blu-ray player. I have both the hdmi and 2ch rca's cables hooked up. When I'm playing cd's I'll switch between the two cables and I'm finding no difference in sound quality between them.
I'm using monster hdmi and Blu-jean rca's, would buying better quality cables make any difference? Would I be better off with the OPPO- 83 blu-ray player for better 2ch audio or a sepaerate DAC?

You say you can't hear a difference, but are you also saying that you aren't happy with the sound? No, better cables won't make a difference that will give you a revelation in sound. Better DACs do help, but also probably not going to make a night and day difference.

Speakers and proper set up of said speakers are the two places to put your money to improve your sound. What is the setup we are talking about? Speakers, receiver, room, etc....
