Can anyone tell me why my super duper HD DVR box from comcast has a worse resolution on my new Mitsu 65833 1080p TV than my 1994 26" Mitsu CRT??? I mean this box has a pixelated and muddy picture on this TV! I put in a Bluray and th picture is great.... I mean even on the HD channels it looks like crap to me. I know this is cable and all that but I shouldn't see pixels adn muddy boxes in areas the size of an inch!!!! Anyone else have this problem or any ideas!!!!

I have comcast HD also. The highest resolution for broadcast tv is 1080i. You may have to go into a menu to set this up. To reach this menu, turn the box OFF and have your tv on. From there, hit the "menu" button on the front of the box. This will bring up your user settings. Here, you can set your resolution to 480i/p, 720p, or 1080i.

It wont look as good as a blue ray because of the bandwith, but it should look pretty damn good. My best channels are Discovery, ESPN, NatGeo, and HGTV believe it or not. They look like they are using high def cameras to shoot shows instead of just upscaling like some other channels do. NBC's Heros looks nice in High Def as well as some Fox shows (Terminator, House, etc...) Try that and see if you can get a better pic.

I have actually done all that, I guess I should have mentioned it. All the HDMI is running through my 3808ci to do the switching. I am currently watching "Gridiron Gang" on Starz and it looks like crap. When I watch things like Fox news at night it looks pretty lame too. But CNN in HD looks pretty good. I will have to look at the cahnnels you mentioned and see if there is any difference. Thanks for the reply!

Watching standard definition cable on an HDTV will not yield very good results. It often looks like crap.

Add to that the fact that the Comcast box doesn't have very good video processing and you end up with a crappy SD picture and a decent HD picture.

I dumped cable for Dish Network and I am very glad I did. The Dish VIP722 HD DVR has excellent video processing, not to mention it is a far superior DVR than the Comcast one. It scales SD content very well providing the best SD picture I have seen on any HD set. I install home theater equipment for a living and most people I deal with have cable (Comcast) and they don't know what they're missing! Satellite (both Dish and DirecTV) is leaps and bounds ahead of cable when it comes to HD programming.

Another probability is that you now have a very large TV and may be sitting too close to it whereas the older smaller TV while at the same distance proportionally was at a distance where resolution didn't matter too much.
But, as was stated, not all the TV channels are broadcasting HD or high enough bit rate to make them look good.

How is your Comcast box connected to the TV?

This might actually be important, my PQ vastly improved when I switched from Component to HDMI on my old Motorola HD DVR from Comcast. I'm not sure why, but it was a very noticeable difference. That being said I'm much happier with Satellite! :D

I have it all running through HDMI cables into the 3808ci, then out to the Mitsu. I just watched a Britannic dive on the History channel international and the scenes when they are under water were horrible. This is totally unacceptable. I need the High speed internet from comcast, but the TV situation is BS!!! I gotta figure some thing out. How much are the all inclusive (less sports packages) packages from Dish Network going for? You guys are getting good results?

Ask comcast to send a "in-house tech" out to look at your feed first, there are some things that can be done to help. I just switched from dish to comcast, with no sd issues(their cs sucks though, and you have to be forthright with them and ask for supervisiors if you dont get an exceptable responce). Having said that sat pic is still better. Good Luck
