color / tint problem on panasonic plasma

I hooked up my DVD player to my Panasonic plasma (42PWD7UY) using S-video and had a pretty good quality picture with the factory settings. When I hooked up the DVD using component cords, the color was way, way off--very heavily red. In fact, I could not get greens at all. I eventually adjusted the tint to -15 (if that means anything universally) and got a better picture. I'm left wondering whether there is something wrong with my component inputs since I didn't need to make the color adjustment when using S-video.

I appreciate any advice.

I have a Panasonic Plasma Th-42PX20 and can tell you that you will notice a color difference between using S-video and Component. For me the red levels seem much higher when using a s-video, but I have only tried s-video on standard TV.

I have a 6th generation plasma and you have a 7th, and I am surprised that with the 7th you can not have program a memory for each input...cant on mine either and it pisses me off.

Other then that, how do you like the plasma?

I think I am able to save a set up for each input...but since I just got it out of the box last night I haven't gotten that far yet.

Otherwise, I love it. Picture, once corrected, looks great. I'm waiting for the NTSC set up disk to make sure I get it calibrated properly.

All the Commercial Models can save settings for each input.

For the Consumer Models "the trick" is to use different Picture Modes ( Vivid, Normal or Cinema) on each input. :)

Make sure if the Component cables are properly conected to the inputs.

Or try another set (if possible) to see if you have a faulty cable.

bruzzi...you seem to know something about panasonic plasmas. I am noticing that when I play any progressive scan signal the screen seems to slightly darken and then lighten by itself over and over....ever heard of that?

It happends with none progressive signals, just not as much.
