I just connected the Aperion 4B speakers and have "The Rock" playing on my ps3 on blueray..to be honest..the sound is OK. I haven't calibrated them yet, so maybe that'll help.

I just unboxed my Dayton sub..and realized I need a special plug to plug it into the receiver? I'm so new at this..

A member here, davidtk, reported in a very recent thread that he was getting poor performance from this receiver/sub combination with the cables that he was using until he bought a higher quality cable. I don't know what cables he was using, and it also could have been a function of the sub and/or receiver. However, I wanted to mention it so that if you find the sub volume to be very lacking that you try a higher quality cable. I'm not talking expensive. Heck, a $5 to $10 cable (for runs of about 10 feet or less) is reasonable. It's just if you're using some thin, crappy RCA cable and the sound sucks, then try a different cable. We'll be happy to guide you to some if you find that to be the case.

Which Dayton sub did you get? Let me know what you think of yours? I got the 12 inch subwoofer. When I first set it up, I was quite disappointed. Had to move them around for it to sound better. So far, its decent for the price I paid out the door of $158. It is loud enough to annoy my neighbor but for me it seems like the bass is not "clear" enough for me...kinda like its behind somthing....a metaphor I can use: like someone is talking while their hand is somewhat covering their mouth. You can hear it but not "crystal clear". But I can't complain for the price i got these for.

Let me know what your thoughts are?

I have the 12" dayton as well, and it's decent, but still doesn't hold a candle to my SVS. I'm just using a cheap RCA cable for my sub cable. I did have to move it from it's original position to get better output, but once I get some extra money, which will probably be around tax refund time next year, I'll probably get a SVS PB10NSD, hopefully I can find a B-stock unit for cheap.

Yes, the receiver usually has one LFE out. Just use the red plug at both ends.

Does your owner's manual for the sub say if you can/should use only one of the line-level inputs if you're connecting it to a single subwoofer output jack on a receiver? Sometimes it doesn't matter which input you use (left or right), but sometimes it does.

I switched it just to red input and it's barely working, just crackly like before.nothing changed.

Does the manual say to use the red input?

Also, what type of cable are you using? You mentioned an audio cable (with red and white RCA connectors on both ends), but you also mentioned a y-adapter. The crackling might be caused by a bad connection between two cables, or just by bad cables.

"If you have a mono line level signal from a pro logic or dolby digital receiver, use the right red input.

I picked up a monster rca cable and a y adapter..i plugged both ends of the monster into the receiver and then the Y end into the receiver.

I also tried JUST the red plugs.

I use just the red plug on mine and it's fine, did you double check all the settings on your receiver? You don't need a y adapter, just run a single cable from the sub out on the receiver, to the red input on the sub 120.
