Cleaning Knobs

What is good and SAFE to clean selector knobs - tone control knobs ( etc. ) My equipment is from the 70's and I would like to restore the shine to the knobs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Most of the guys who restore older electronics use non-residual cleaners like the products from GAIG DeoxIT.
