Classic 5.1 vs 7.1 question in a specific room?

I know it is a constant debate among some between 5.1 and 7.1 but I am trying to get some ideas on changing my system and wanted your insight.

I have an ideal room in the front portion, (center placement, front placement)
In the back I have a set of Paradigm atoms hanging from the ceiling and pointing towards listener (because the back of the room extends on twice as far back open.

So the question is should I put an additional set of surrounds at hanging ceiling height (because of no better option for the area to the left and right of the listener) and if so what would be a good choice with my other speakers?

Or would it be better to just stay with the 5.1 setup and tweak it out.

i would like to see pics.

but if i understand you correctly = you can move the currect sides out as wide as you can. and then fit rears in the middle as best you can.

Agreed, pics or a diagram would help.

If you have the room, 7.1 is the way to go, IMO.
