I am looking for an amplifier and would be interested in hearing experiences with class D. I am not familiar with this technology and how it is for sound, and durability.

For an AB amp I would probably look at 50-100 watts; how much power in class D would be comparable to that?

I am seeing various designs in class D which is confusing. Which would be good places to look at for good designs and models?

I'm not sure how prices compare. Hope to find something good up to $600.
Probably ~ 3 inputs, and a headphone amp would be good.

Uh, the class D amp of 50-100 watts would be comparable to an A/B amp of 50-100 watts. Unless you measure watts differently?

I've used class D amps, particularly the Crown XLS DriveCore amps and like them a lot. Most of the issues that class D had in the past have generally been resolved with the latest generations. Some stories about problems with older class D implementation still persists, probably like your concern.

Longevity of the power supplies has been/can be an issue but there are lower and higher quality units out there...

There are class D available from a variety of companies now. Try ATI for one. Hypex and icepower modules used by some manufacturers are available in individual modules for a diy build if you want.

You might want to be more specific about what you want in the amp....just a basic 2ch integrated amp? What specific types of input connections are you looking for?
