Hi All,

I was wondering how to use the clap test to determine your room treatment needs. For instance, if there's an echo, does one need absorbers or defusiors. My new basement room sounds weird when I clap my hands so I believe I need some help in the acoustics department.

Thanks for the help!

That has a different meaning to those of us from the Viet Nam Era.

...things like penicillin come to mind.

In any case ,you could probably use a combination of both in oredr to minize the reflections. Start simple. rugs on fhe floor, perhaps soft fuzzy stuff on the walll, comfy chairs, etc. and see what happens.

If you hear a "boing" sound or repetitive echoes, that's a good indication you need acoustic treatment. Another, more basic, indication is that you have a room. :D

Most rooms need absorption much more than diffusion. The main feature of diffusion is it avoids echoes without making the room more dead sounding as absorption does. But most rooms are already too live sounding, so absorption is usually a better choice. And all rooms need absorption at bass frequencies.

ROFL! That was the first thing that came to mind when I read the title...and I'm not even that old.
