I need to buy speaker wire for 4 in ceiling speaker. The longest wire will be 45ft.
I was going to buy the 12 gauge cl2 rated wire from monoprice, but I have been reading about cl3 rate wire. Is it necessary? I will be using Denon 3808 for receiver which is "supposed" to have 130 watts per channel. Thanks for the responses I need to buy the wire ASAP.

CL3 is typically better insulated than CL2... but monoprice is only pulling up CL2 for me.

I'd opt to get the best insulated and shielded cable, so CL3. And if you can, make a conduit (if you need to meet code) and run the wire through the pipe.
It is probably overkill, seeing as that 12/3 is held in place on the side of 2x4 with plastic nail down staples :D

go with CL2

The difference between the two is that CL2 is rated for up to 150 volts while CL3 is rated for up to 300 volts

12 gauge is more than sufficient as well as the CL2 rating.
