I feel this is a good thing as I believe they could offer some great products for home automation via the internet as well as implement class leading security and convienence into products designed for smaller networks and the home enviroment. I am a network admin by day and have alot of experience with thier products and look forward to new products for the home enviroment.

Well, they have to do something with all those friggen empty buildings around here :) They probably have as many empty buildings as some land developers. The place where I work now was to be one of their sites and that was scrapped when the market turned.

Cisco might end up being a double-edge sword (as a CE vendor). It might mean innovation :) but it's going to be very pricey $$$. :(

They're looking to expand their range so they do not rely so heavily on any particular market.

I have dealt with hundreds of Cisco products at work and this move has me really excited.
Cisco products have always been rock solid and well-engineered and I think home theatre equipment by them would be expensive but worth it.

Oh great a receiver that you can telnet into over the Internet and change the configuration via their CLI. ;-)

It will be interesting to see what they will bring to the table.

Only thing that means: we will see less HT companies in the near future...as that's Cisco's main method of R&D, buying out the competition.

A company I worked for back in san jose was one of the casualties, which eventually forced me to move out of there to find a new job.

Worst part....the price of the product we made (which was just rebadged and sold) actually went UP after the buyout.

Now, Cisco is a good quality company and was also a very nice place to work at during the "transistion"...and they do try to develop as much as possible, and buy out those who they can't out-design...so don't be surprised if a few names we all loved go away and end up being the same thing with a cisco name and a higher price tag.

It is most likely the Linksys division will do most of the work here, at least early on. Also may see some products come out of the KISS and SA purchase. I can't imagine they are going to price themselves out of the business. But you will see a lot of AV hardware combined with networking technology.......
