Are you talking about artists that do praise and worship music, or some other kind (or genre) of Christian music?

I don't really listen to Christian music as that means seeking out a Christian radio station which I don't have any interest in.
I will say that the quality of Christian music has generally improved. 30 years ago, it was generally obvious that Christian musicians were a second tier to mainstream pop artists; however, I think that gap has narrowed. However, it is still their.
In a way, it seems strange that there has not in recent history been a Christian Musician who has made a truly big name for themselves. Perhaps there is a factor of writing/performing music in service to a greater being which restricts someone from allowing themself to be idolized the way any top musician ends up being?
Of course a lot of top musicians are Christian, but that aspect is not so front and center to prevent them from fully showcasing their talents.
Just thinking aloud...

Was wondering if any followers of the music or artist. Don't believe I have seen a thread or any post. I have some CD's from a few artist. CREED, was a Christian ' contemporary' he broke off. The band CREED's first release was successful. But as for music worship? Don't understand that part of what your asking. To me they all pretty much sell out once they get into the studios and sign the contract.

Back before the music industry started categorizing artist the type of music and censorship was a lot stricter back then. I can remember Elvis Presley and the Doors performances on The ED Sullivan Show. So would Christian contemporary be considered POP?

I am very fond of the Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Carrie Underwood, The Band Perry, and MercyMe myself. We have a local Christian music station named K-LUV that I listen to a lot. Creed was also very good, but have since fallen out. My favorite is "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe:

I also really like "Jesus Take The Wheel" by Carrie Underwood:

The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" is also one of my favorites:

Phil

Aren't a lot of popular artists christian? Is so, then doesn't that make most western music 'christian'? Or are all the popular musical artists Athiest, Bhuddist, Muslim, or something else?

Are you saying you’ve never heard of Hillsong United, Elevation Worship, Chris Tomlin, Toby Mac, Matt Redman and the like? If not, you're lucky.

I don’t know that “a lot” are Christians, although there are probably more in C&W than other genres. But then I’m not up on all the current popular acts, C&W or otherwise. However, in times past the percentages have been pretty small, at least as far as those who "came out" publically.

Doesn't seem that holding true to the values. I gave some of the newest releases of a few artist a good listen streaming music. From what I can make of contemporary Christian music it's pretty much in the category of Pop.

I used 'cult' as like lets use something recent Blade Runner has a 'Cult' like following. Not in terms of an actual cult.

As a lover of all music genres, I find contemporary Christian music to be, well, god awful.

Gospel music is what you want. Kirk Franklin's Stomp, almost, almost makes me reconsider my beliefs. Or, lack of beliefs I should say.
There is so much honesty and raw emotion in gospel music that its heart-wrenching.

I'm not sure I really know what Christian Music means.
I generally think of it as music performed by a group that is largely supported/sponsored by Christians/Christian Organizations.
I would think doing a cover of a Gospel song would qualify as Christian music, but really have never seen the Doobie Brothers categorized as a Christian Band

On the other hand, the Band Perry I assume is a Christian Group, but the song Phil linked - "If I Die Young" has little to categorize it as a true Christian song. Only the mention of "the Kingdom" that I noticed.
