Chris Rea anyone?

I became a huge Chris Rea fan from the moment I listened to his brilliant "The Road to Hell" CD, a while ago. Since then, I have bought some other great cd's from this artist, such as "Shamrock Diaries", "Auberge", "Dancing with Strangers" and "Espresso Logic".

One thing amazes me a lot about his discs: the almost-audiophile quality of the recordings, featuring incredible transparence and huge soundstage. And also the great quality of the music itself, with elaborated arrangements and a very diverse palete of stiles and influences.

Any other fans of this great British artist here in the forum?

Absolutely!! Like you, the "Road to Hell" cd got me hooked and I have since picked up several others. If you haven't picked up "Road to Hell 2" - don't bother (IMO), its not at all like the RTH we love, simply bad.
Last year he released an 11cd set "Blue Guitars" and with that final amazing flurry he says he will not release any more material under the Chris Rea name.

I've got 20 of his CDs.

I'm only missing La Passione, King of the Beach, Hofner Blue Notes, The Road To Hell and Back ('06 live CD) and Blue Guitars (Box Set) because they tend not to be released here so I end up trying to track down imports without breaking the bank.

This brought back nostalgia, that haunting tune "Down on the Beach" reminds me of the Bahamas with an ex-girlfriend. I have his CD which I haven't listen in a couple of years, New Light through Old Windows (?)

Grabbed a clean copy of La Passione on e-bay, with the original cover (the B&W photo of a kid with a red stripe in the middle....not the picture of the kid holding the red car) so my wish list is down to four.

That song is a very good song that brings back memories for me as well. That and "fool if you think its over" are his two best songs! Both are very haunting!!!

On the 1992 CD release of "Shamrock Diaries" is the song "Josephine" the original recording? Or was it only on the original 1985 LP release?

I don't know, but I also have two different versions of this beautiful song: one in "Shamrock Diaries" and the other in "New Light Through Old Windows".

Have you listened to the live version (Montreux)? It is the best version I have heard...and I ususally do not like live recordings.

Diaries didn't impress me too much. I do like Dancing With Strangers.

I think "On the Beach" is my favorite Rea album. Every song is just about perfect and leaves you wanting more!!

WOW! Talk about "it's a small world," saw the ex (I hadn't in about 20 years!), she's bloated, had two kids and looks like a linebacker, woman must've put on 140 pounds, freaked me out! Funny thing seeing her didn't remind me of "Down On The Beach," more like Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls!" Wow! That was on Sunday and I'm still in shock.
