Chris Botti Live in Boston Blu-ray

Up until about a month ago I had never heard of this guy and up until a few minutes ago I was mispronouncing his name. I enjoyed this even though it's not my bag as they say. There are lots of guest singers. You know it's Boston when in that kind of concert Steven Tyler gets a standing ovation for walking onto the stage. Yo-Yo Ma also got one for walking on. Odd but interesting choice of guests for a jazz based performer. My favorite was Lucia Micarelli. I like listening to her and I like watching her but Steven Tyler stole the show ... well, Steven Tyler with the Boston Pops and Botti's band backing him up. I don't think the picture quality was much past fair but the cinematography was pretty good until the very end. They decided to change the subject of the image every 5 seconds but it's only an irritant at the very end.

I thought the sound was great. As an anti jazzist I think this is a great rental. For a jazz fan this is a keeper. It's got to mean something when I want to start applauding the opening number. There's a sustained note that the audience breaks into spontaneous applause while Botti's still playing it.

The Behind the Scenes footage is interesting and includes an extra piece in it's entirety. This BR might not be for Jeff due to all the liberals. :D

j/k ... Jeff, you're gonna love this if you don't already own it. ;)

Now ...

Some of the cinematography is weird, like the slow-mo shots. Other than that, it's a great blu-ray. I use it to show off the system, as well as just to listen to. It has a great selection of guests, and Chris Botti's band is fantastic. Billy Kilson on the drums, Mark Whitfield on the guitar... the pianist and bass player whose names escape me... incredible performers. I'm also not a huge jazz fan, but this disc is very enjoyable. I own the blu-ray, cd, and dvd :D

Finally picked this up. What an incredible blu-ray. I think Def Techs were made for this type of music. I would highly recommend this for anyone as a demo disc to show off their system. Although this isn't the type of music I typically listen to, I highly enjoyed it. 5 stars!

I agree this is an awesome concert Bluray! Oh and Katherine Mcphee is smokin' hot while performin' her rendition of I've Got you under my skin :)

If you liked the Boston one, I'm pretty sure you'll like his other concert bluray that was filmed at the Los Angeles Wilshire Theater.
